WebP to JPG

Why did my download save as WebP?
Most sites now serve WebP because the files are smaller. Your browser saves what it was handed, so the picture looks ordinary but keeps that format.
Which should I pick, JPG or PNG?
JPG for photos and for anything an upload form will inspect. PNG when the image has a transparent background worth keeping — JPG cannot store transparency and fills it with white.
Does converting cost quality?
A little. WebP and JPG are both lossy, so re-encoding gives up a small amount. At the quality used here it is not visible at normal viewing size.
